Is it Time for Breast Implants?
Whether you're young, old, or somewhere in between, if you are considering breast enlargement you may be wondering if this is the right time for you.
/Cosmetic Surgery News Articles/ - March 08, 2008 - Whether you're young, old, or somewhere in between, if you are considering breast enlargement you may be wondering if this is the right time for you.
Breast augmentation is a big decision. There are many, very personal factors which you must consider when deciding if it is the right time in your life for breast implants.
Your age
Many women start thinking about breast enlargement in their teens, while some are getting implants in their late 60's. Once your body has fully developed, there is no right or wrong age for breast enlargement, but there are some important issues to consider.
You can have breast enlargement surgery as young as 18 years old and in some rare cases as young as 16. Early breast augmentation can be very helpful to women with noticeably asymmetrical breasts or very small breasts. It can boost your self esteem and set the stage for a successful future. However, there are some reasons why you may want to wait.
Breast implants last for many years, but they will require a follow up procedure eventually, usually in about 10 years.
On the other end of the spectrum, you are never too old for implants. As long as you are in good overall health, you can have breast enlargement surgery at any age. Many women find themselves putting off the things they want for themselves until they believe it is too late. First while raising their children, and then once all of their kids are on their own, caring for aging parents. By the time you have time to think about yourself, you're past retirement age. Fortunately, women are staying active and healthy well into the golden years. Many are choosing to compliment their youthful, well-toned bodies with the breasts they have always wanted.
Pregnancy
If you are planning to become pregnant, you should wait until after having your child to have breast enhancement surgery. Breast implants won't harm your baby or affect your ability to become pregnant. The problem is what pregnancy does to your breasts. Your entire body will go through major changes. You will get the best results if you wait until your body has stabilized.
Breast augmentation can affect your ability to breastfeed. Nursing with breast implants is safe for you and your baby, but in some cases the nerves or milk ducts are damaged by the surgery and nursing simply isn't possible.
Many women choose to have breast augmentation, often combined with a breast lift, after they have had children and are ready to get their old bodies back!
Overweight
If you are anticipating massive weight loss, you should wait to have the surgery. Much like pregnancy, massive weight loss will change your entire body, and your breasts can be affected in many ways. Your proportions will also change, and can affect the size, shape, and type of implants you choose. Sometimes, after massive weight loss, a breast lift is more beneficial than enlargement.
A good time overall
In November, 2006 the FDA approved new silicone implants, after a 15 year ban. Once again, women have the freedom to choose the type of implants they want. Most breast augmentation patients and doctors agree that silicone implants look and feel more like real breasts.
