The 'Cougar Lift' Trend: Older Women Filling Out For Youthful Looks
In two years, the number of women aged 45 and over receiving breast enhancements has doubled.


MANCHESTER, ENGLAND, June 25, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Since 2008, the number of breast enlargement patients aged 45 and over at Transform, the UK's largest cosmetic surgery group has doubled.

Transform has experienced a large spike in the number of mature women undergoing body enhancement procedures such as buttock implants and breast enlargements. This trend is now being referred to as the 'Cougar Lift'.

Statistics released by Transform have revealed that one in five patients undergoing breast enhancement procedures are now women over the age of 45.

In recent years, Transform's surgeons have seen a new demand for 'filling out' various body parts that have started to sag. The cosmetic surgery leader named buttock implants, facial dermal fillers and breast augmentations as its most popular treatments for cougars.

Women over the age of 45 now make up 20% of Transform's breast augmentation patients (already used this figure). This is double 2008 numbers. At that time, patients undergoing buttock implant were made up of 50% in the 18-30 group and 15% for 45 years and up. In 2010, 30% of patients are 18-30 while 27% are 45 or older.

"Women lose body fat as they age, causing the skin to sag and look older. Instead of trying to keep this skin tight, they're taking advantage of this to have it filled out," stated Shami Thomas, spokesperson for the Transform Cosmetic Surgery Group.

"Traditionally, women have sought that 'gaunt' and 'super-skinny' look that makes them look older. Now, patients realize this and opt for plumper skin that looks healthier and younger. Two women who have made this popular are Demi Moore and Madonna. Madonna's face is fuller than it used to be, and some people even feel it's fuller now than when she was younger. It looks as though Demi underwent breast augmentation for a curvier, younger look. With this trend, it doesn't matter if it's filling out bottoms, boobs or faces, so long as things look full and healthy," explained Thomas.
